Digitized Component Manufacturing for E-Mobility

From melting to die casting to assembly: For a German car manufacturer, the supplier TCG UNITECH GmbH manufactures components made of aluminum die-cast for electric drive systems. Through the digitization of production, the automotive supplier captures all machine data, analyzes sub-processes, and ensures component traceability.

The mechanical processing of the cast parts takes place in Rohr in Kremstal, Austria, on double-spindle milling centers linked with portals and robots. The double-spindle unit with separate Z-axes handles the main feed directions in X and Z, while the workpiece is moved in the Y direction. According to their own statements, the tool change concept allows for efficient and space-saving production of complex components.

Digitization Ensures Process Reliability and Transparency

From the office, the production technician, thanks to specific applications, always has an overview of the operational states of all machines. They, for instance, capture process parameters and ensure component traceability. Moreover, the software analyzes machine data, sub-processes, and media consumption without additional sensors and visualizes them via a web-based interface. User-friendly alerts can also be set up for error notifications. For example, the G-Code indicates where the machining cycles can be shortened by adjusting the feed speed.

With the NC-File History, it's clear who made a change to an NC program and when, and the visualization also highlights the differences between the program versions. Additionally, it offers approaches to evaluate the CO2 footprint caused by manufacturing for each component or process step.
