Diehl Aviation and 9T Labs introduce revolutionary ECO Bracket

The two companies have jointly developed an ultra-light bracket made from recycled composite material. The ECO Bracket reduces weight, costs and carbon dioxide emissions. The advanced 3D printing technology is also characterized by excellent mechanical properties.

The new ECO Bracket.

The ECO Bracket is an ultra-lightweight bracket made from a combination of 3D printed carbon elements and recycled thermoplastic composite material derived from production waste. The brackets previously made from aluminum are used on board commercial aircraft, for example. Thanks to an innovative production process, the new, lighter bracket enables optimum load distribution.

The advantages of the ECO Bracket include:

  • Fifty percent less weight: lightweight materials are used for the bracket and the design is optimized. This reduces the weight by half.
  • Fifty percent less costs: The manufacturing costs can also be reduced by half - with the same mechanical performance.
  • Environmentally friendly: By reusing production waste and allowing used components to be recycled at the end of their life, the ECO Bracket contributes to the reduction of production waste and more sustainable production methods.

Brackets are used in the aviation industry to attach cabin components and systems to the aircraft structure. Traditionally, expensive metal components have been used in high-stress areas such as the overhead bins above the seats.

The ECO Bracket provides a new alternative by using recycled composite materials instead of aluminum and will be presented for the first time at the Aircraft Interiors Expo 2025 in Hamburg.
