Cooperation for sustainable solutions for the automotive industry

The global automotive industry is changing: Larger and more complex parts require new production processes. The topic is accompanied by the desire for more sustainability. Technologies, processes, and successful cooperations are needed to achieve both goals. The machine builder Engel and the technology group Bühler are showing the way with the megacasting solution Carat 840.

The Carat 840, which is showcased at the Bühler Megacasting unveiled event at ENGEL, is 7.6 meters high and covers a floor area of around 160 square meters The Carat 840, which is showcased at the Bühler Megacasting unveiled event at ENGEL, is 7.6 meters high and covers a floor area of around 160 square meters.
Energy efficiency in production, new drive concepts, flexibility in design and production and, above all, significant weight reductions are essential cornerstones for making mobility more sustainable. Additionally, lightweight materials such as plastic and aluminium are gaining importance in the development of new solutions. The Austrian engineering company Engel and the Swiss technology group Bühler have been working together in the field of die casting for three decades.

Engel is one of the largest manufacturers of plastic injection moulding machines. One of the injection moulding machine manufacturer's core competencies is the construction of large-scale injection moulding systems with clamping forces of 5,000 tonnes and more. Bühler is one of the world's leading suppliers of die casting solutions. The technology group has over 90 years of experience in the manufacture of systems for aluminium and magnesium die casting.

We are very proud of the successful and cooperative partnership we have enjoyed with Bühler for 30 years now. As globally operating family-owned companies, we are united by the same values and goals. By building on this, we are able to leverage synergies and drive innovation faster.

Die-casting solution with enormous clamping force

The Swiss technology group uses clamping units from the Austrian manufacturer for its megacasting systems. One of these solutions is the Carat 840, which was presented for the first time in mid-2023 at the "Megacasting unveiled" event. According to its own specifications, the unit is the world's most powerful die-casting machine.
